Governors

1/11/17

PLEASE NOTE THERE HAVE BEEN SOME RECENT CHANGES TO GOVERNANCE AND THIS PAGE WILL BE UPDATED SOON

Governors play an integral part in the effective management of our school and operate within the framework set by the Department for Education (DfE).

The Governing Board determines the school’s vision, aims and objectives in accordance with National Curriculum guidance. They also agree the school’s curriculum statement.

The Governing Board includes members appointed by the Local Education Authority, co-opted members, parents/carers, the head teacher, and staff representatives from the school. The current Governing Board is made up of people from diverse walks of life with a breadth of experience from within and outside the education arena. We believe this varied experience makes for a strong and effective Governing Board.

We are fortunate to work with a team of excellent teaching and support staff that work hard to provide an ideal learning environment for our children.

Parent Governors are elected for terms of 4 years (a Parent Governor may resign if his/her child leaves the school during this period, but does not have to do so). Any parent of children registered in this school is entitled to stand for election when there is a vacancy and all parents are entitled to vote. Partnership governors may not be parents of children currently at the school.

The role of a Governor is diverse and includes responsibilities in the areas of finance, curriculum, appointment of staff and discipline. Meetings are currently held once a term in the evenings. Training courses are run by the Bromley Education Department on all aspects of Governorship. Further details on the role and duties of Parent Governors, or for any other aspects of school life affecting Governors can be obtained from Jonathan Patterson.

Email jonathan.patterson@highfield-jun.bromley.sch.uk .

Appointments can be made through requests in writing or via email.
