Welcome to the History page


Over the four years at Highfield Junior School, your child will study history from 12000 BCE with the start of the Neolithic Stone Age, to 1945 with the end of World War II. As well as looking at primary and secondary sources to see what happened, we will be developing understanding of why change has happened and how people felt about it. Studying history gives us an excellent opportunity to develop thinking skills and early analytical skills. Each topic will be supported by a school trip to immerse your child in the period studied and to bring the history alive.


History is great fun! You can support your child’s learning by visiting some of the many museums and historical sites that are available in and around London. These visits can be followed up by looking online at some of the interactive activities available on museum websites. There are also some very good historical novels which you can share with your child – please click on the links below.
